By Musa Hafsat Abdullahi (U19MM1030)

In a bold move to promote leadership and gender inclusion, the Ahmadu Bello University Students’ Representative Council (ABUSRC), led by Comr. Nazeer Ibrahim Kallah, in partnership with the Office of the Ambassador for Gender Equality, SDGs ABU Zaria, is hosting a landmark summit titled “Empower Women, Empower Nation.”

The summit is scheduled for Saturday, July 12, 2025, by 9:00 a.m. at Yusuf Bala Usman Hall, ABU Main Campus, Zaria. Far beyond a regular event, it promises to be a movement for awareness, action, and empowerment.

This historic gathering is designed to spark important conversations, build capacity, and inspire especially young women to embrace leadership roles with confidence and clarity. As the nation faces social and economic challenges, the summit emphasizes a key message: “When you empower a woman, you empower an entire nation.”

Participants will benefit from a rich lineup of activities including free leadership training, interactive panel discussions, and networking sessions with professionals, advocates, and leaders from various sectors. From community activism to corporate spaces, the summit will showcase stories and strategies that drive real change.

A major highlight is the award ceremony, celebrating individuals who have made notable contributions to gender equality, community service, and sustainable development. These recognitions aim to motivate others to lead, serve, and make an impact.

Attendees will also receive free certificates of participation, a valuable addition to their CVs and a sign of their commitment to social impact and leadership growth.

Speaking ahead of the summit, Comr. Nazeer Ibrahim Kallah stated:

“Leadership is not about titles, it’s about impact, and impact begins when we uplift those whose voices are often unheard. Empowering women is not charity; it is an investment in national progress.”

Abdulrazak Shuaibu, Special Adviser to the ABUSRC President on Media and Publicity, noted that the event reflects the council’s dedication to inclusive governance, youth empowerment, and SDGs, particularly Goal 5 (Gender Equality) and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions).

Students and guests are strongly encouraged to attend. This is more than a learning opportunity, it’s a call to action.

Empower a woman today, and you uplift an entire generation.
