Using One Towel for Face and Body? Here’s Why You Shouldn’t

For many people, using one towel for both the face and body seems normal. But is it really safe? The answer is no, and here’s why.

The skin on your face is more delicate and sensitive than the rest of your body. When you use the same towel for both, you could be spreading sweat, bacteria, body oils, and dead skin cells onto your face. This increases the chances of breakouts, rashes, or even infections.

Using a separate towel for your face helps reduce the transfer of bacteria and oil, especially if you have sensitive or acne prone skin. It also lowers the risk of irritation caused by harsh fabrics or leftover body products like moisturisers or perfumes.

Board certified dermatologist, Dr. Lily Talakoub, explains that using the same towel for your body and face can clog pores and worsen acne. She advises people with sensitive skin to wash or replace their face towel every couple of days or even daily to avoid bacteria build up.

Having a separate towel for your face isn’t just a skincare trend, it’s good hygiene. It helps prevent skin issues like eczema, fungal infections, or acne. Plus, when you assign specific uses for your towels, you're more likely to wash them regularly, which keeps things fresh and clean.

In short, this small change in your daily routine can make a big difference for your skin. Your face deserves its own towel, and your skin will thank you for it.
