After years of abandonment, the Eastern Railway corridor is finally getting a second chance. Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, the Federal Government has commenced reconstruction of the Port Harcourt Aba rail line, marking a crucial step in revitalizing Nigeria’s transportation infrastructure.
Victor Adamu, the Railway District Manager in Enugu, confirmed that construction crews are currently working to restore the narrow gauge tracks connecting Rivers and Abia States. For thousands of commuters, traders, and families living along this route, the return of rail service represents more than just infrastructure, it signifies renewed access to opportunity, mobility, and economic growth.
The project is expected to positively transform daily life across the region. Small business owners will gain easier access to wider markets, families will benefit from more affordable transportation, and new jobs will emerge as stations and tracks are rehabilitated.
What was once a symbol of neglect rusting tracks and overgrown platforms, now stands as a powerful testament to renewal. The Port Harcourt Aba line is just the beginning of what officials hope will be a full restoration of Eastern Nigeria’s railway network, bringing hope and connection to millions.
