Graduating Law students of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, have appealed to the Federal Government to extend the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to students who cannot afford the cost of law school.

This appeal was made during a two-day orientation program organized by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adamu Ahmed, for graduating students. The program held on the 16th and 17th of July at the Mamman Kontagora Square, ABU.

On the final day of the event, when students were given the opportunity to ask questions, the graduating Law class submitted a request asking whether the university could help appeal to the Federal Government on their behalf. They explained that many of them cannot afford the cost of attending the Nigerian Law School, which is a prerequisite for proceeding to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Responding to the appeal, Dr. Sa’adatu Makarfi, Director of the Counseling and Human Development Centre, acknowledged their concern. She emphasized that it was more of a message than a question and promised to relay it to the appropriate authorities within the university.

"This is not actually a question but a message you are all passing to the school. I will pass the message across and I promise you will get a response," she said.
