The Nigerian Senate has issued a stern warning to Kogi Central lawmaker, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, urging her not to resume legislative duties until her suspension is officially lifted.

According to a report by The Punch published on Sunday, July 14, 2025, the Senate's position was made known through its Committee Chairman on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu. In a formal statement, Adaramodu emphasized that there is no existing court order compelling the Senate to recall Senator Natasha before the expiration of her suspension.

“The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria wishes to reaffirm, for the third time, that there is no subsisting court order mandating the Senate to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan before the expiration of her suspension,” the statement read.

Senator Adaramodu further noted that the lawmaker was found guilty of contempt of court. As part of the judgment, she was ordered to:

  1. Tender a public apology via two national newspapers and her verified Facebook page
  2. Pay a fine of ₦5 million to the Federal Government

The Senate described any attempt by Senator Natasha to resume her duties ahead of official clearance as a violation of due process and court directives, asserting that the authority to reconsider her recall lies solely with the upper chamber.

The controversy continues to stir debate, especially among her supporters, as the Senate maintains its stance on upholding institutional discipline and legal compliance.
