A routine trip turned into an unexpected delay for some Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) students on Saturday afternoon when the campus minibus they boarded ran out of fuel near the College of Medicine roundabout, Samaru campus.
The incident occurred at around 3:45 PM. The minibus, light blue in color, was transporting over ten students from Phase 2 to the North Gate, where they were headed to attend a football match outside the campus. Midway through the journey, the vehicle suddenly stalled in the middle of the road.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver attempted multiple times to restart the engine, but the efforts were unsuccessful. Moments later, he pulled out a small keg from the boot and flagged down a passing okada rider, presumably to fetch fuel from a nearby filling station.
Fortunately, the road was not busy at the time, so there was no traffic disruption. The students onboard stepped out and helped push the vehicle off the road to keep it clear for other users.
Though the situation was quickly resolved, it raised quiet concerns about transport preparedness and vehicle maintenance within the university.
