Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has been awarded the prestigious ₦500 million Mega Prize by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) after emerging as the overall winner at the 5th edition of the National Tertiary Admissions Performance-Merit Award (NATAP-M). The recognition, which covers the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic sessions, highlights ABU’s exemplary performance in admissions, compliance, and inclusive education.
The award was presented on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at a ceremony in Abuja, by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmed, and JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede. Receiving the award on behalf of the university, ABU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, expressed appreciation to JAMB and the Ministry of Education. He pledged to leverage the recognition to further raise ABU’s profile and enhance the quality of education offered.
ABU secured the top position by earning a perfect 14 points across five rigorous award categories. The NATAP-M criteria included:
1. Number of candidates choosing the institution as first choice
2. Admission of candidates from all 36 states and the FCT
3. Strict adherence to JAMB’s admission policies and procedures
4. Efforts toward gender equity and diversity
5. Fairness and transparency in the admission process
With this achievement, ABU reinforces its reputation as a leader in Nigeria’s academic landscape, living up to its motto, “Naturally Ahead.” The university administration has pledged to use the prize to improve infrastructure, support research, and expand access to quality education for students from diverse backgrounds.
